Abstract

The performance of underwater acoustic communication system is sensitive to the Doppler shift and ISI(Inter-Symbol Interference). Therefore, the simulation algorithm needs to consider time-spread due to multipath arrivals which cause the ISI, and time-varying Doppler shift along with moving source and receiver. For this purpose, VirTEX(Virtual Time series EXperiment) based on Ray model has been developed.[10] In this paper, VirTEX is used to compare the characteristics of ocean waveguide from the experimental data and illustrate the performance. The CIR(Channel Impulse Response) that characterizes the multipath arrivals with representative time-spread due to multipath arrivals is compared between numerically simulated and experimental probe signal. Also, the communication performance analysis for BER(Bit Error Rate) is compared between numerically simulated and experimental data signal. As a result, VirTEX can be useful as a simulation tool for evaluating the performance of underwater acoustic communication system.

수중음향통신 시스템의 성능은 다중경로 전달특성에 의해 발생하는 인접심볼간 간섭(ISI, Inter-Symbol Interference)과 도플러 편이(Doppler shift)에 영향을 받는다. 그러므로 해양도파관 환경의 수치실험은 다중경로에 의해 발생하는 시간 확산과 송․수신기의 움직임으로 발생하는 도플러 편이로 인한 시변동성을 고려해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 해양도파관 환경의 변동성을 고려한 가상의 신호 생성 시뮬레이터인 VirTEX(Virtual Time series EX -periment)를 활용[10]하여 시뮬레이터 기반 수중음향통신 시스템의 성능을 검증하였다. 수중음향통신 시스템 성능 검증을 위해 해상실험에서 획득한 실측데이터와 VirTEX 기반 수치모의 된 데이터의 채널응답분석 및 통신성능 분석을 수행한다. 해상실험 및 수치모의실험을 통해 수신된 탐침신호의 채널 임펄스 응답(channel impulse response) 분석 결과 다중경로 개수와 깊이에 따른 채널응답의 변화 경향이 매우 유사함을 확인하였으며, 해상실험 및 수치모의실험을 통해 수신된 통신신호의 BER(Bit Error Rate)을 통하여 VirTEX 시뮬레이터를 활용한 수중음향통신 시스템의 통신성능을 확인하였다.
